Arthur is an independent chartered accountant and chartered arbitrator having been a senior partner in the City of London firm Hacker Young chartered accountants. He has been appointed as arbitrator on over 750 occasions covering disputes in the commercial, financial services, insurance and accountancy areas and the financial aspects of professional sport. He also acts as an expert accountant in litigation and arbitration and has been profiled in the Law Society Gazette as an accountant recommended by solicitors. He headed a team of independent accountants to give assistance to the Metropolitan Fraud Squad and other Scotland Yard departments.
He was a long-standing member of the most senior disciplinary body in the accountancy profession and was Complaints Examiner to the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. He was twice appointed as a Department of Trade and Industry Inspector and served a secondment to the Central Policy Review Staff (Prime Minister’s Think Tank).He is the chairman of the UK government’s Enemy Property Claims Assessment Panel and has participated in World Bank funded assignments in Africa and East Europe.
He is a past chairman of both The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Board of the LCIA. He was awarded an MBE for services to arbitration.
