IDRC – Adrian Winstanley is appointed an OBE

Mr Adrian Winstanley has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) “for services to international arbitration”.
He has served as the LCIA’s director general since 2000, having joined the centre in 1997 as registrar from Clifford Chance. He says, “I am delighted and honoured to have been awarded the OBE for services to international arbitration, which begins, of course, as recognition by one’s peers, who instigate and support the nomination.”

“The LCIA has achieved remarkable success in recent years, and is now unquestionably among the most eminent of the world’s international arbitration institutions. I am proud of this success and of the part I have played in it.”

He goes on to pay tribute to the “tireless support and dedication” of the presidents and members of the LCIA Court and the LCIA board and “the remarkable teams working at the coal face” at the LCIA’s offices in London, Delhi, Dubai and Mauritius. “This award is a
reflection of all their achievements.”

LCIA Chairman William Rowley QC says,”Adrian’s award today reflects both a great personal and an institutional triumph. Adrian has been the driving force that has transformed the LCIA from a dreamy little institution that was going nowhere in the early 1990s to what it has become today, one of the world’s pre-eminent international arbitration institutions.”

“Led by Adrian, the transformation of the LCIA into a truly global institution has helped to cement the UK (and London) at the centre of the world’s arbitral stage – with all the economic benefits that this brings. Adrian’s place in this year’s Birthday Honours list could not be more deserved.”
